Winter Solstice 2012

Usually on the Solstice, I like to go for a long walk and think about the turning season and reflect on where I am in the universe and where I've been since the Sun and the Earth were in this spot last year. However, today marked the end of my second full week back at school after surgery, as well as being very, very busy and very, very stressed. Last night we had an insane windstorm that knocked out our power until noon, which set me up for a grumpy day since I didn't get to start off with my shower. So when I got home, as soon as I'd dealt with everything I needed to deal with, I took a long, hot shower. That meant that when got ready to take my walk, it was dark, and raining. We've had snow all week, but it disappeared today.

So I went out on the porch and took a photo looking into my house, and a photo looking out, and reflected that I'm still here and the world hasn't ended, or if it has, I haven't noticed, and called it quits.

Happy Winter Solstice, everyone!

Night of Ceremony is accepted!

Very excited -- this morning I signed a contract with Torquere Press for my next novella, Night of Ceremony, to be published. This is the next in the Varian and Josh saga. It starts soon after A Sky Full of Wings ends.

The guys are married, they have a baby, they have a real Old One and his partner as their friends, and man, do they have problems!

I wrote this story last summer. I was having kind of a rough time with health issues and family stress, and even though I had some other writing projects in mind, I realized that I needed to write this story, then. Comfort writing, like macaroni and cheese. Comfortable, familiar characters. Friends.

Two surgeries later, I'm okay, and the book is going to be published. Along with my "real" family and friends, I credit Varian and Josh for getting me through some tough stuff.

Did I do some revisions while on Morphine? That, I'm going to leave for you readers to decide.
