Cold, Cold, Cold

This is what happens to waterfalls when the temperature drops to the teens below zero for days on end. They freeze in midmotion, creating beautiful ice sculptures of frozen water.

I bundled up and took a walk this afternoon. It seemed good  to be outside for fun, as opposed to the mad dashes from car to buildings I've been doing all week. The day I bought groceries, I seriously considered abandoning them in the cart, it was so painful to put them into the back of my car. But winter is part of Vermont, and one deals with it. The days are getting longer, and when I turned my face to the sun, I could feel just a little bit of warmth. It was good.

Inside, I've been putting the final touches on Silver Pearl and making a video trailer for Night of Ceremony. I want to make one for Silver Pearl as well. I'm also in the middle of two other writing projects... Sigh.

Speaking of Covers...

How's this one?

I took the photo for this one -- it was one of those lucky sunsets when I was in the right place at the right time with the right lens and the right filter. And it was made into a beautiful cover by Brandon Clay.

Night of Ceremony -- coming out in April. Josh and Varian and Baby Jenny, and Huntington, and Justin and Wells, and a major disaster. It's going to be epic.

Silver Pearl Cover!

Isn't this a lovely cover? Guess what this one is about? Not dragons, but close!

I just finished the edits on this novella this morning, and I really enjoyed working through them. Silver Pearl has been through a lot of permutations, and I really love how it's turning out. It will be released in March. Can't wait!

Just found out that this cover was designed by London Burden.

January Thaw

We always get one. Nobody knows why. Snow lovers find them annoying. I enjoy the break from the cold, and I love the way bare ground smells, and it's nice to walk around the yard and remember green grass and flowers and swimming.

Three days of near fifty degree temperatures, and our brook went from this:

To this:

And our road went from this:

To this:

Vermont's weather has a well-earned reputation of constant change and our seasons are dramatic. All you can do is love it. (And wash your car a lot.)

Winter Twilight

I think it's funny how some dogs get all excited when their person goes for the leash. Because we live so far out in the country, we don't need a leash. My dog gets excited when she sees me go for my camera.

The Dragon and his Knight

It's officially out!

Buy it HERE  Read about it HERE

And a little bit of trivia -- the college in this story is loosely based on the University of New Hampshire, though the inside of the lecture hall is at Johnson State College. I am an alumna of both.

Yes indeed, there used to be a bagel cart outside the English Department at UNH, and I hope for the current students' sake that it is still there, for it sold the most wonderful bagels I've ever eaten.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everybody! Just think, a whole new year to read and write in! How exciting is that?

To celebrate (okay, it's just a coincidence, but still) I have a new, old story coming out tomorrow! The Dragon and his Knight, previously published in the Mine Anthology, will be available as a stand alone story. It's the first time Justin, one of the original dragons to take human form, and Wells, the knight whom he chooses to be his human guide, appear. They are also in the Notice Series in A Sky Full of Wings, and become important characters in the forthcoming story, Night of Ceremony. And they have another story of their own in the Shifting Steam Anthology, called Origin.

So watch for The Dragon and his Knight! I'll put up the buy link here tomorrow.
